Social protection of population in the economic security system of the region

The article assesses the economic security in the social sphere in the Republic of Kalmykia, identifies the main reasons for the high level of poverty in the region. The analysis of social challenges and threats affecting the economic security of the region was carried out, which made it possible to group them into groups in the field of demography, labor market, education and in the field of the level and quality of life of citizens. It is concluded that the main goal of social policy at the republican level is to improve the socio-economic living conditions of citizens, and, thereby, increase the economic security of the region. The necessity to carry out periodic analysis of the results of social policy with the help of socio-economic indicators to assess the effectiveness of its implementation is determined.
