Social significance of the institute of probation in Russia: domestic and foreign experience

The article presents a positive practice of the institution of probation of convicts in the post-penitentiary period in the EU countries. Foreign experience testifies to the advisability of creating a special state probation service (for example, the Institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia). Its main goal is to promote a successful social adaptation of convicts released from places of deprivation of liberty. The author identifies and analyzes the main problems of minors convicted in the post-penitentiary period. He concludes that the process of adaptation of individual after releasing from criminal punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty to normal conditions, radically different from those outside the penitentiary institution, presents great difficulties.
