Social and economic situation in Russia: modern students’ opinions and estimates

The article is based on the data of the empirical sociological research. The author analyzes students’ perception of social and economic situation in modern Russian society. Students of Russian universities consider the social and economic situation in Russia to be close to critical one. According to the students’ opinion, the main factors that have the greatest impact, are changes in exchange rates (such as dollar and euro), falling of oil prices, high level of corruption in the government and economic sanctions by western countries. Critical social and economic situation in the country has an impact on the financial position of students and their social mood. Students highly appreciate efficiency of Russian foreign policy. However, they evaluate the domestic economic policy not so highly as the foreign policy. The authors emphasize dependence of the students’ opinions on the social and economic situation in the country on their political preferences. It is necessary to form an active civil position among students. Young people should have a desire to change the situation in our country for the better.
