The social and economic factors of environmental behavior in the region

The research examines the factors affecting the perception of environmental risks related to air pollution in Krasnodar Territory. The study analyzes the official statistics on air pollutant emissions. The author presents the results of a sociological survey of Krasnodar citizens on environmental behavior patterns having been updated due to the massive loss of trees in the city because of ice pellets in 2014. The research substantiates that there can be a slight increase in the population’s demand for environmental quality as a result of natural disasters not posing a massive threat to people’s lives. However, the living standards of people in Krasnodar Territory are far from the tipping point of the Environmental Kuznets Curve which demonstrates that the society is ready to impose heavy demands on the environmental situation in the region.
