I. A. Ilyin’s social and normative concept and its place in the history of Russian sociological thought in the late 19th - early 20th centuries

The article analyzes the main directions of researching the political institutions of society within the Russian sociological thought in the late 19th - early 20th centuries. It determines place and significance of I.A. Ilyin’s social and normative concept in this study. The author considers the scientific views on the state, the law, and their peculiarities in Russia during the specified historical period by referring to the representatives of two prevailing ideological trends, which include monarchism (L.A. Tikhomirov, K.P. Pobedonostsev, et al.) and liberalism (M.M. Kovalevsky, P.I. Novgorodtsev, B.N. Chicherin, L.I. Petrazhitsky, et al.). Besides, the article provides an overview of I.A. Ilyin’s social and normative concept (his understanding of the law, the legal awareness, the power, and the state) and notes its relevance for the analysis of social processes occurring in modern Russian society.
