This article reveals the socio-political significance of the disparity in the system of international economic and political relations in Southeast Asia, describes the national and cultural features of the development of different states in the region in the light of the functioning of national population groups on their territory. Using the example of the Thai and Chinese diasporas, the features of their settlement, activities and influence on intrare-gional political and social processes are described. There is an integration consequence of the weakening of the national influence of the motherland on the ethnic groups of immigrants, which is strengthened as a result of the opposition of citizens to common problems solved by members of diasporas together with the local population. On the contrary, the disintegration scenario of migrants' existence in the host society is considered, as well as assimilative processes at different levels due to the influence of the main ethnic community on diasporas. As a vivid example of the latter, the phenomenon of the Sinification of the South Asian region is described under the influence of the strengthening of China's positions in the international arena.
