The social and psychological status of a neonaticidal mother as an element of offence characteristic

The study reviews the social and psychological status of the personality of the neonaticidal mother as one of the most important elements of offence characteristics of the neonaticide committed by mother (Article 106 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). It is based on studying its typical properties and attributes involving the scientific sources, the questionnaires of practitioners, and criminal archive files. Besides, the research examines the information used in a forensic sense in order to improve detection and investigation of infanticide and decrease its latency. All studied personal characteristics and properties of a neonaticidal mother are reviewed in a three-way system describing her social and psychological status. In conclusion, the integral social and psychological portrait of the mother who killed a newborn child is shown. It will allow the investigator, especially the beginner, to present the description of the perpetrator of the crime at the stage of the report of infanticide and develop the best plan of investigative and search activities at the initial stage of the investigation of this type of crime.
