The article studies the role and significance of such phenomenon as social trust for the development and functioning of the regional civil society. Various kinds of trust are characterized here. Considering the trust toward abstract systems as a priority, the author defines the institutional structures that enjoy the greatest confidence among the Vologda Oblast residents on the basis of the monitoring data.
