The article presents the results of a qualitative sociological study "Social position of women entrepreneurs in the Republic of Mordovia". Twelve women entrepreneurs of Saransk city were interviewed by the method of informal interview. It was revealed that the social status of women entrepreneurs is determined by both objective (the employment sector and its gender marking, the standard of living in the region, etc.) and subjective (the level of professional education, motivation for employment, family assistance, etc.) factors.
