Main tendencies of development of the modern system of mass media are loss of media of monopoly for receiving, distribution of information and attention of target audience; prevalence of clip thinking, discretization of perception; maximum visualization of content; demand of multimedia formats. Traditional media consider these features and pay attention to the capacity of social networks. This article is devoted to the investigation of the peculiar features of use social media in printing version and website of the social and political newspaper and to the analysis the role of social media in organizing activities and information policy of the media editors. Journalists of printing and online mass media consider social media as platform for communication with target audience, resource for search of sources of information, instrument of monitoring of activity mass media. Results of this research are actual, because social media is perspective object of study for traditional media. The object of the study is publications of printing version and website newspaper «Russian Reporter» for the last five years. Substantial and structural features Substantial and structural features of publications of special heading «Social media» are analyzed in detail. Main method of research is content analysis. Criteria of the analysis are topic of materials, genre, tone of the publication, type of heading. According to the analysis publications Journalists of the social and political newspaper «Russian Reporter» write about social networks in different subjects and genres. Correspondents and experts research of various aspects of functioning of social networks in the modern system of mass communication and mass media. There are psychology of behavior of users of social networks, state policy on regulation of Internet and social media, development of new online services, social media and messengers. Questions of influence of social networks on life of the modern person are discussed. Journalists post announcements of such meetings in website and video reports. This system of system of feedback allows involving a youth segment of target audience and adult readers who wish to study new technologies.
