Social status and financial situation of schoolteachers in Kamchatka, 1930's-1940's

The article deals with the history of development of school education in Kamchatka and in particular with the social status and material situation of teachers in the region during the 1930s and 1940s. The authors pay special attention to the difficult living conditions of teachers, irregular working hours, and strict quality control of their teaching by the officials. However, teacher’s position in society was both significant and valuable, and for most teachers their profession meant sincere devotion to the chosen field of work.
