The North Caucasus, within the borders of the North Caucasus Federal District, is one of the dynamically and inconsistently developing macro-regions of Russia. Along with the growing population, there is high poverty and social differentiation, activation of ethnic, cultural and political processes. Very mediocre economic development is of great importance, not least due to the production, technological and technical potential, which was severely destroyed in the 90s and not restored, and very primitive production, migration of skilled labor. As a result, social factors have been eliminated and ethnic ones have become more active. All this, on the one hand, began to form a new dynamic in the demographic factor, and on the other, with its help and through it, a new configuration and architectonics of territorial development. Of particular interest are the regional capitals of the North Caucasus - the most important territorial factors, acting, on the one hand, as a sign of the modernization of traditional society and, consequently, the reformation areas of the latter, and, on the other, as a new social reality of ethnonational territories. In this regard, in our opinion, the study of socio-ethnodemographic factors in the development of regional capitals deserves attention, an assessment of their role in shaping demographic trends in the capitals, economic dynamics and social attractiveness (attractiveness), as well as in shaping the prospects for a new architecture of the macroregion.
