The article is concerned with applicability of various sociological conceptions for researches of regional development of science. The author analyzes pre-paradigmatic conceptions of science, guidelines of the classic social science and sociology of scientific knowledge. Besides, the author defines institutional approach as the most efficient one in researches of science’s regional development.
