The content of collagen and that of nucleic acids has been studied in compact and spongy bone tissue of practically healthy people at the age of 21-84 years. The collagen content in compact bone has been established to be higher in comparison with that in spongy bone both in men and women. The greatest content of nucleic acids is revealed in spongy bone. Moreover, the authors have determined that the biosynthetic function of osteoblasts prevails over the proliferative one.
