Сorrelation of clinical and hormonal indices of hypotalamo-hypophysaro-thireoid axis in women with paranoid schizophrenia and schizoaffectve disorder in the process of the therapy with atypical neuroleptics

The test objective was in to give a more precise definition to interconnectivity between hormonal disbalance of hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis and clinical manifestations which are distinctive for thyroid dysfunction during the therapy of atypical antipsychotic agents (clozapine, olanzapine, quetiapine). The results of clinical and hormonal surveying of 131 female patients with paranoid schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder are testify to drawdown of free T4 which accompanied by clinical-endocrine symptomatology typical for thyroid dysfunction. There was found more expressed influence of clozapine on thyroid function in comparison with olanzapine and quetiapine. That's all give grounds to recommend the application of endocrinological investigations in psychiatric practice.
