Features of self-reported quality of life of patients with affective disorders under different risk for suicidal behavior

Methods. Based on biopsychosocial model of development of mental pathology the results of study of personality traits and quality of life in patients with affective disorders are presented. Study group included 44 women (61 %) and 28 men (39 %), mean age 39±2 years. Psychological (MMPI and Leon-hard-Schmieschek) and clinical (BDI and ShARS) scales were used in the study. Results. Statistically reliable relationships were revealed between negative subjective evaluation of quality of life and social functioning of depressive patients and personality traits: pessimism-hypothymia, introversion, rigidity and anxiousness. Positive correlation was found between good quality of life and optimism, activity, hyperthymia. We have findings about interrelationship of affective disorders with pessimism, hypothymia, anxiousness, passiveness, rigidity, introversion. Affective disorders lower significantly the level of social functioning and quality of life of patients. Conclusions. Analysis of findings of correlation of depression and anxiety levels, personality traits evaluated with use of psychological and clinical scales with level of social functioning and satisfaction with life has shown interrelationship of depressive disorders with personality traits “pessimism”, “hypothymia”, “anxiousness”, “passiveness”, “rigidity”, “introversion”. Depressive disorders lower significantly the level of social functioning and quality of life of patients, especially communication beyond family is affected. The skill to interact with the environment, feeling of “selfcontrol”, the skill to organize patient's environment according to his/her needs are affected. Cognitive activity of patients and interest in novelty are reduced.
