State and Prospects for Development of Innovative Potential of Industrial Enterprises of Volgograd Region

Industrial enterprises and their innovative activities play an important role in the development of the regional economy. The existing problems associated with the need for technical modernization of most industries, difficulties with the development and sales of new products and organizational issues of implementing innovative activities at industrial enterprises negatively affect the final results of the industrial complex of a particular territory. In the existing scientific publications on the regional development of the Volgograd region, the topic of developing the direct innovative potential of industrial enterprises in the region has not been fully studied, which determined the relevance of this study. In the article, the authors studied the concept of the innovative potential of the region’s industry and presented its structure. An analysis of the state of the industrial complex of the Volgograd region was conducted, and directions and trends in the further development of the region’s industry, with an emphasis on the development of innovative activities, were identified. The study examined the innovative activities of organizations in the Volgograd region, revealing a significant issue: the low level of innovation compared to the Southern Federal District and the Russian Federation as a whole. A SWOT analysis of the innovative potential of industrial enterprises in the Volgograd region facilitated the identification of strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities for future development. Based on the results of the conducted analysis, problems are identified, production development points are determined and a number of suggestions are made to intensify the innovative activities of industrial enterprises of Volgograd region. The results of the study show that in the current conditions, the development of innovative potential of enterprises of the industrial complex of the Volgograd region should be carried out through a comprehensive system for the development of innovations at enterprises in the region. At the same time, it is important to ensure effective interaction between government bodies, industry, and research organizations that can support production in the development and implementation of new products and technologies at specific industrial enterprises in the region.
