The article is devoted to the study of the current state and trends in the development of dairy cattle breeding in a region with extreme natural conditions. Dairy cattle products have high nutritional properties necessary for the population of such territories. The actual per capita consumption of milk and dairy products from 2000 to 2021 is below not only the rational norm, but also the minimum food basket in the region. The volume of milk production in all categories of farms is decreasing, mainly due to a sharp decrease in the number of cows in agricultural organizations and personal subsidiary farms. Per capita milk production is lower than its actual consumption by the population in the region. During the analyzed period, the productivity of cows, as an important factor in increasing milk production, increased by 56.3%. The resources of milk and dairy products during the study period increased by 8.3% due to an increase in their import by 3.4 times.
