Status and tasks of improving the accounting and assessment of the species diversity of trees and shrubs in forestry

The article offers the reader an overview of the current process of obtaining and using information on tree and shrub species diversity in the forestry sector of the Russian Federation. The current flow of data on their diversity has a number of significant drawbacks in the forestry sector. Among them are the outdated reference book on trees and shrubs in the information systems of the Federal Forestry Agency, a simplified approach to presenting information, and problems in using the collected data. The authors justify the need to optimize elements of the information system and approaches to the application of data on the species diversity of trees and shrubs in forestry. Tasks related to formation of a sectoral list of priority tree and shrub species of the Russian Federation and improvement of approaches to data collection, processing and use are defined. The proposed recommendations will help improve the information systems of Rosleskhoz and harmonize the submission of materials by the Russian Federation to the international information systems of the FAO and the UN.
