Pro-and antioxidant activity of blood serum in rats with Walker-256 carcinosarcoma

Changes in pro-and antioxidant activity and lipid peroxidation in blood serum were studied in male Wistar rats with inoculated Walker-256 carcinosarcoma. Cell suspension of inoculated Walker-256 carcinosarcoma was injected into a femoral muscle at a dose of 106cells. In order to obtain blood serum, rats were decopitated under ether narcosis 5 days after tumor inoculation, on days 3, 7 and 14. The ratio between pro-and antioxidant activity parameters in blood serum of rats was calculated to assess the balance in the oxidants-antioxidants system. The increase in the ratio between pro-and antioxidant activity of blood serum was observed at all stages of Walker-256 carcinosarcoma, indicating the balance displacement in the oxidants-antioxidant system towards oxidants, that is evidence of oxidative stress.
