Development of health care among the agrarian population of Don host oblast in the second half of the 19th century (on the example of peasantry)

The article is devoted to the study of condition of medical care among the agrarian population of the South of Russia in the second half of the 19th century on the materials of the Don peasantry. The author investigates the archival materials and provides statistical data. She reveals the main problems of medical service in the given period: the lack of the state support, the shortages of the financing which was provided by local taxation, the shortage of qualified physicians. The author reveals that the traditional medicine was still maintaining its influence among the agrarian population. Development of disease prevention and activation of enlightening work were the positive aspects of situation.
