The emergence of the concept of a septic state and its preservation to our time is proof that understanding the nature of sepsis is a reflection of a person's knowledge of himself as a biological individual from the standpoint of physiology, as well as the result of the development of fundamental ideas of the body's response to damage (including infectious). It is customary to distinguish three main historical stages of the evolution of the concept of sepsis: empirical, microbiological, which was initiated by the discovery of microorganisms - causative agents of sepsis, and modern, integrating the interaction of macro- and microorganism.
