The article considers the main trends and directions of propaganda activities of the Soviet government during the Cold War. The analysis of the components of propaganda was carried out. The stages of formation of the image of an internal and external enemy are studied, how changes in the foreign policy of the Soviet Union influenced ideology and propaganda. The article concludes that campaigning was of great importance in shaping public opinion and supporting communist ideology.
