The article carries out a research of the “Soviet person" ideology forming impact on ethno-social processes in the Soviet Union. The author emphasizes the significance of the Soviet identity as an institutional background in which ethnic identities of both titular and non-titular ethnic groups were forming. In author’s opinion, the Soviet identity was used by people with marginal ethnic status which slackened ethno-genesis processes. Close institutional connection between the Soviet person features and Russian language and identity became one of the reasons that in the transitive period de-sovietization has led to partial de-Russianization of the Post-Soviet ethno-social space.
