Soviet and post-Soviet Yesenin: transformation of the image of the "genius of place” in local social memory

Every place, every locality, whether it is a city or a village, has its own unique history, memory, and destiny. The cultural, symbolic and spiritual capital accumulated in them is the "genius of the place". Based on the fact that this concept simultaneously indicates the possession of a specific area by a certain genius that can be passed on to selected creative individuals, and on the personality itself, whose genius is extrapolated to this area, we can confidently say that the Ryazan region and the personality of Sergei Yesenin are inseparably and mutually dependent. In this case, the image of Sergei Yesenin is considered as a personification of the concept Genius loci". The object of research is the connection between the image of the poet and Ryazan through various mechanisms of reproduction of social memory. The article also analyzes the transformation of the image of the "genius of the place", founded by the poet's personality, in the Soviet and the post-Soviet period. The research sources of the local social memory are as follows: tourist publications about the Ryazan region from the mid-50s of the twentieth century to the present day, visual landscape images of Ryazan, urban toponyms and ergonyms associated with the name of Sergei Yesenin.
