Soviet peace movement in postwar cultural diplomacy: institutions, discourses, practices

During the Cold war, the Soviet Union took an active part in the international peace movement, using it as a tool of its soft power. This tool allows you to effectively compensate for the lack of military and economic power of the USSR, to form an attractive image of a country-peacemaker, to create favorable conditions for the promotion of socialist ideology. In this article the author examines the discursive frames, institutional organization, strategies and practices of the Soviet peace movement. Based on the analysis of source material in the article reproduced the rhetorical construction of the Soviet peacemaking, discusses the model of leadership, the Soviet peace Committee, political challenges and strategies in the struggle for peace of the Soviet Union on the «foreign front».
