This article discusses the distinctive features of the cooperative sector of the economy in some countries of East Asia (Japan, China and the Republic of South Korea). The main purpose of the article is to identify changes inherent to one or another type of cooperative. The relevance and novelty of the topic under consideration is to analyze the key trends of the modern cooperative movement in the last 2-3 years. The study found that in these countries, cooperative organizations focus their activities primarily on the interests of their shareholders, following basic cooperative values and principles. When considering the cooperative sector in Japan, attention was paid to the specifics of various types of cooperatives (agricultural, fishing, small and medium businesses, consumer and others), taking into account the size, legal framework and performance, as well as financial performance of the Japanese Cooperative Alliance.
