Modern state and development of party system in Georgia

The article examines the evolution of the party system in post-Soviet Georgia. Argues, that existence of a developed party system is major factor of democratization. Among the common features of postSoviet countries are allocated loose electoral base, charismatic and clientelistic type of parties, the impact of the authoritarian past, among the Georgian features - strong president, the collapse of the ruling party after leaving the government, the lack of clear ideology and representational relationship with society.
