Current status of some mammals arid and semiarid ecosystems of the western Azerbaijan

In the framework of the project “Conservation of arid and semiarid ecosystems of Transcaucasia”, financed by GEF and UNDP, the main arid ecosystems of the republic were investigated. Their biotopes are represented by wormwood fields, islands of tugai forests, tamarix and kelwood, and juniper-pistachio light forests. On the basis of literary data and own research, the current ecological state of a large horseshoe, leopard, striped hyena, brown bear, red deer, gazelle is analyzed.
