Modern Hungarian oriental and Mongolian studies: traditions and personalies

The article presents the data on Hungarian Oriental and Mongolian studies of the 20th century. We have characterized the reasons for wide and stable interest in Hungary in the study of nomadic peoples - Mongols and Turks, paying significant attention to the leading Hungarian scientists who made the greatest contribution to the study of Mongolian history and culture. The article provides information on the creative experience of such out-standing Hungarian Orientalists as A. Csoma de Keresi, L. Legeti, A. Rona-Tas, G. Kara, A. Birtalan, shows the main areas of scientific research and key results. We for the first time in Russian historiography present a historiographical overview of the formation and development of Hungarian Mongolian studies and the peculiarities of science topics.
