The modern problems of transport routes development in the North and the competitiveness of the Russian traffic corridors in the system of international traffic corridors

The limited accessibility of the northern regions is an obstacle to realization of the resource potential of Russia. The article considers a possibility of using its transit potential by Russia as an additional source of the state budget replenishment, by acting as an international connection between Europe and Asia. The most promising traffic corridors are the Northern sea route, the Trans-Siberian rail route, and the “North-South" corridor. The possible solution of the traffic corridors development problem is the attracting of private investments and the exploitation of advantageous geographical location for routing cargo flows from Asia to Europe.
