Introduction: Large-scale informatization of society affects all spheres of public life. Modern crime is actively involved in this process. Increasingly, drug trafficking crimes are committed using computer technology. In turn, such crimes cannot be fully investigated without the help of experts who have special knowledge in this area. In these conditions, the role and importance of forensic computer expertise increases. Materials and methods: the materials of the study were legal acts regulating the procedure for the appointment and conduct of research of electronic media, scientific publications and guidelines, as well as materials of judicial and investigative practice on the topic under study. When writing the article we used normative-logical, formal-legal and other methods. Results: the article analyzes the theoretical provisions in terms of the definition of the conceptual apparatus, it also describes the possibilities of specialized hardware and software used in the expert units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia/ the author studied the materials of investigative and judicial practice in the appointment and conduct of forensic computer examinations in cases related to drug trafficking «remote» method, identified the grounds for the appointment and production of these studies and proposed a list of issues...
