On creating the European association for Asian art and archeology (EAAA)

November 2012, at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, saw the establishment of the European Association for Asian Art and Archeology (EAAA). This event crowned an extensive series of organizational activities conducted by the staff of the Department of Asian and African Studies of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana and supervised by Dr. Nataša Vampelj Suhadolnik. Among the associate members of the Board of the newly created organization are representatives of the largest universities in Europe: the University of Ljubljana, University of Bologna (Italy), Westphalia Wilhelm University (Munster, Germany), Palacky University (Olomouc, Czech Republic), Ludwig-Maximilians-University (Germany) and the University of Bonn (Germany). The Board Member from the Russian Federation is represented by Novosibirsk State University, namely, the Department of Oriental Studies of the Faculty of Humanities. The Department that follows its traditional scholarly way pertaining to Siberia obtained all the necessary experience relations and is capable of participation in major projects to study archaeology and traditional art of East Asia. For many years, the Department researchers have been contributing articles on the history of Eastern material culture for the new edition of the Great Russian Encyclopedia, heading Eastern culture and art projects, making art and archaeological exhibitions and co-working with museums and art galleries. Establishment of the Association is aimed at promoting and encouraging all academic activity related to Asian art in the countries of Europe, opening a scholarly discussion on the history of Asian art, creating and maintaining a platform for a fruitful exchange of ideas about current research, which would contribute to the further development of Humanities.
