Specialized assistance for epileptic patients in Tomsk district: experience of work of the interdisciplinary center of prevention of paroxysmal states

Analysis of specialized assistance for adult patients with epilepsy in Tomsk and Tomsk District has been conducted. It has been revealed that realization of the program of assistance for epileptic patients is possible at the expense of the following factors: opportune differentiation of epileptic syndromes at the stage of visit 1 what allows avoiding the over-diagnosis and not rational pharmacotherapy of epilepsy, correct formation of scenario of neurophysiologic examination what allows differentiation of epileptic syndromes and evaluation of causes of pharmacological resistance of disease,; rational use of modern antiepileptic agents what increases quality and persistence of remission and allows more effective conducting the rehabilitative program in this group of patients. This to full extent is realized within Interdisciplinary Center of prevention of paroxysmal states. This program is of high social value because it is directed at rehabilitation of persons in age cohort from 18 to 30 years. Joint work of psychiatrists and neurologists allows achieving persistent compensation of paroxysmal syndrome and successful social adaptation of patients. Ideology and methodology of the project is based on principles of program "Epilepsy out of the shadow" declared by the International Antiepileptic League and directed at decrease of stigmatization of epileptic patients.
