Features of conceptual metaphors functioning in English historical discourse

The paper deals with the particularities of conceptual metaphors that function in English historical discourse. The centuries-old search for answers to the question concerning the nature of metaphor favored the development of various theories of metaphors relevant to the paradigm of a particular era. As part of the Weltbild value inherent in specific culture, conceptual metaphors allow historians not only to create a colorful picture of historical events, but at the conceptual level to change their perception by the recipients as well.
