Specific features of neolithitization in the forest zone of Eastern Europe

Бесплатный доступ

The essence of the Neolithic Age is development of a sedentary life style, with ceramics being one of its attributes. Lacustrine fishing became a basis of thisprocess in the forest areas. Development of the fishery culture is traced down througharchaeological sources; however, fishery tools and artifacts do not reflect it adequately. The main artifact is a boat, and the level of its sophistication can be judged by the setof tools used to work wood. This material is very well presented at archaeological sites.Axes in the lake areas were entirely replaced by adzes which were used to make dugouts. The maximum diversity of tools for woodworking has been observed in the Volosovoarchaeological culture. Common trends of lacustrine system development starting fromthe final stage of the glacial period to the age when fishing life style was replaced byproducing forms of economy have to be taken into account as well.
