The chemical composition of aluminum alloy 1570C was optimized to adapt it to the use in reusable rocket and space hardware. Industrial production of the 1570C alloy was set up. Comprehensive studies were conducted and tentative specifications for semi-finished products made of 1570C alloy were published. Manufacturing recommendations were developed for constructing large welded structures made of the 1570C alloy. Manufacturing process was developed for structural elements of the new- generation manned transportation spacecraft. It was demonstrated that friction stir welding is an efficient and promising welding method for spacecraft manufacturing.
