The article is devoted to the introduction of the theme of the Apocalypse in Russian religious and philosophical discourse in the late 19th-early 20th centuries. The author identifies the role played by the dispute between Konstantin Leontiev and Vladimir Solovyov about chiliasm, which unfolded around Dostoevsky’s doctrine of the future “world harmony” presented in the “Pushkin speech” and articles from the Diary of the Writer. The peculiarities of Dostoevsky’s interpretation of the Apocalypse in the context of the influence of humanistic utopianism on his thought are shown. The author concludes that Dostoevsky’s ideas in the field of philosophy of history can really be described as a kind of chiliastic teaching, but fundamentally different both from ancient chiliasm and from European utopianism. In addition, the author analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the criticism of Dostoevsky’s ideas on the part of Leontiev and concludes that this criticism is not entirely justified. The article shows the influence of Dostoevsky’s apocalyptic ideas on the formation of a “new religious consciousness” in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century
