Methods of suicides: a comparative aspect

On the basis of the literature data the assessment of preferred methods of suicide in certain territories of the Russian Federation is carried out. It is shown that the structure of methods of suicide in many regions is quite the same: self-hanging dominates (up to 87.5%), the second place - self-poisoning (up to 9.4%), the third - self-shooting (up to 4.6%). In some areas the self-shooting leaves behind self-poisoning in frequency, taking the second line. However, there are no objectively significant trends associated with territorial, national or ethnic factors in these categories. The authors conclude that the preferred choice of self-hanging in the Russian population can be regarded as a rather typical feature of a single national culture (even in such a complex and ambiguous attitude of the population towards suicide). The authors of the article draw the conclusion about the necessity of realization of studies of preferences in choosing the methods of suicide in the association with cultural-historical, economic and other aspects.
