The postural equilibrium ability is an important component of high performance in many sports. However, the specific features of posture regulation in athletes of different types have not been studied enough. The aim of the work was to compare postural stability in athletes with different directions of the training process. Postural stability was studied in wrestlers, runners, football and hockey players, as well as non-athletes (total n = 121) in habitual standing with open and closed eyes, and in a half-seat position using stabilometry. It was found that the players used visual information more effectively; the wrestlers had the best postural stability in the eyes closed position, the runners had relatively low frontal stability. In all groups of athletes, reduced velocities of oscillations of the center of pressure in the closed eyes standing and in the half-seat position were observed, indicating less strain in the posture regulation system. The revealed features of postural regulation in athletes are probably associated with the peculiarities of sports activities.
