Comparative assessment of elastic properties of the aorta in newborns with coarctation of aorta before and after surgical treatment

The results of echocardiographic study of 19 children till 3 month old with coarctation of aorta before and after surgical treatment (early after operation and during 1 year) are presented. The elastic properties of ascending aorta are lower in comparison with healthy children before and after surgical treatment and remain unchanged one year after operation, though the early date of it. This gives more evidence to the assumption that coarctation is a systemic vascular disease of the precoarctational arteries, which can't be eliminated even though early date of adequate surgical repair.
