Comparative assessment of statistics on growing stock in forests of Russian Federation

A comparative analysis of the state accounting data of the forest fund, the state forest inventory and the state forest inventory on the evaluation of timber reserves was conducted. In a number of subjects of the Russian Federation, a significant understatement of timber reserves was revealed in comparison with the data of the state forest inventory. The main reasons for the understatement are the use of obsolete forest management materials, as well as a systematic error in the valuation of stock in the valuation of stands. According to the authors' estimates, the total timber stock according to the State Forest Register data is probably understated by 40-50%.
