The article presents various aspects of secular and religious ethics on the issue of euthanasia. The methodological basis of the article is presented in the synthesis of scientific and rational principles, approaches, methods and Orthodox exegesis. In working with scientific texts, the use of methods of analysis, comparison and synthesis, as well as a critical analytical approach, is of particular importance. The author shows that, proceeding from the principle of the relativity of moral values, in modern secular consciousness the installation on the depreciation of human life begins to spread, this is witnessed, first of all, in appeal to euthanasia. On the other hand, attention is focused on the fact that the factor of opposition to this intention can be considered a religious consciousness that is oriented towards the sacredness of human life. The author gives various arguments in favor of the sacredness of the gift of human life and the unacceptability of committing suicide under any pretexts or forms. On these grounds, the Orthodox Church opposes active euthanasia and criticizes the positions of secular humanism and those states that carry out legislative legalization of euthanasia. The novelty of this article lies in the implementation of the comparative value aspect in the study of euthanasia problems. The author compares the values of secular and religious consciousness, reveals the rationale for their fundamental differences.
