The labor market is one of the most vulnerable parts of the modern market economy. In most post-socialist countries it is characterized by imbalance and low efficiency. On the level of labour supply it shows up as a marked reduction of economic activity and rising of the unemployment rate. The article investigates the features of unemployment dynamics in the countries that have emerged due to the collapse of the USSR and in the Central European countries. The authors found out the key factors that had determined the differences in unemployment rate dynamics in these countries.
