In the article the amount of economic damage to the components of natural environment is calculated, economic damage and compensation payments are compared. Insufficiency of compensation costs for protection of the environment is detected. The structure of environmental investments in the fixed capital of the Republic of Buryatia, Irkutsk region and Zabaikalsky region is examined.
