Comparative analysis of approaches to assessing the economic complexity of Russian regions by the structure of GRP

An approach to assessing the economic complexity of Russian regions by the structure of GRP is proposed. The approach is based on the standard method of estimating economic complexity. The issue of choosing the threshold value of the indicator of the identified comparative advantages of RCA is considered. 0-1 matrices were constructed for the structure of GRP for 2019 in 2019 prices and in 2016 prices at different thresholds. Their structures correctly reflect the idea behind the economic complexity index. As a result of the correlation analysis, it is shown that at threshold 1, the index of economic complexity for GRP in the prices of 2019 and 2016 are more resistant to changes in the threshold, than at other thresholds. A comparative analysis of estimates of economic complexity by GRP structure in 2019 and 2016 prices, as well as with data on tax revenues for 82 sectors and shipped products for 24 types of economic activity for 2019 was carried out. Correlation coefficients with data on the structure of GRP for 2021 in 2021 and 2016 prices are obtained. Assessment of the economic complexity of regions by GRP structure in 2021 prices, 2019 and 2016 prices can be useful in solving management problems aimed at diversifying the regional economy and increasing its economic complexity.
