Stability of deep incisor overbite correction in adults using an improved method of retention

Objective: to compare the efficacy of various retention methods for maintaining physiological occlusion after orthodontic correction of deep incisor overbite in adults. Materials and methods. We analyzed the stability of long-term outcomes of comprehensive rehabilitation of adult patients with deep incisor overbite during the retention period (2 to 10 years). Patient age varied between 18 and 59 years. Study participants were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 included 20 patients that had retention achieved using our own method, whereas Group 2 included 21 patients that had traditional retention. We evaluated the most significant clinical parameters, including overbite depth, presence of incisor contact, presence of a vertical step between the mandibular canines and the first premolars, stability of restorations, and interalveolar distance. Results. Relapses (> 3 mm increase in incisor overbite) were observed in 9 patients (42.9%) that had traditional retention and 1 patient (5%) that had underwent retention using an improved method...
