The study discusses the aspects of public education development in the Russian Far East in the context of radical changes associated with the events of the Great Russian Revolution. Based on historical documents and works of researchers, the author analyzes the overall trends in the establishment of Soviet education and reveals the specific nature of this process in the Russian Far East. Public education was updated in the Far Eastern region in terms of a nationwide policy. The 1918 decrees of the Soviet government regulating the education reform became the basis for the establishment of the public education system in the Russian Far East. The education reform took place in the severe economic and political environment. The unstable situation in the region, its remoteness from the center, and the conservativeness of the population created serious barriers to reform. Soviet government reforms were not fully implemented and revived after the Civil War when the Far Eastern Republic was founded in 1920.
