Development of the new socio-cultural space of provincial Saratov in the 1917-1920's

The article examines such aspects of urban socio-cul-tural space as community-focused entertainment organizations. Formation and development of cinema and theater in Saratov in 1917-1920 is described. The author considers dependence of functioning of these institutions from the activities of the city authorities managing culture and socio-economic situation. The paper focuses on the social and cultural value of the theater and cinema in the life of the city, and their ideological influence on the society. The author gives a brief analysis of the main theaters of Saratov, shows the specificity of organization of the work of cinemas, and considers social stratification of cinema audience.
