Old forest pines and the effect of the density on the size of trees

Бесплатный доступ

The analysis of the 180-year-old forest stand with high completeness on the area of 2.16 ha. Used 216 pads 10x10 m, which determined the effects of density on diameter of trees. When using trend lines from linear to polynomials of the 6th degree, close values of the approximation coefficients R2 were found, with fluctuations in the range 0.06-0.107. That is, at the level of micro-communities of trees, the strength of the factor of density is from 6 to 11%, averaging 9%. This experimental fact deprives the theoretical basis for the use of intensive thinning in middle age.
